Because of you, over 18 cases of tomato sauce were put up yesterday to be given to families served by the Healdsburg Food Pantry when the tomato season has passed!A very special thanks to:
the growers who planted, nurtured and donated hundreds of pounds of tomatoes for the preserving and the Pantry
Dan and Katie Magnuson (and Jorge!) of Soda Rock Farm
Lynda and Emmett Hopkins of Foggy River Farm
Heidi Herrmann and Scott Knippelmeir of Strong Arm Farm
Dave Ring of Alexander Valley
the Soroptimists who generously sponsored Let's Preserve this year and last 'the General', Merrilee Olson, who shared her expertise clearly, patiently and with grace and YOU who volunteered your time on a beautiful Saturday
to wash, chop, and stew 750 pounds of tomatoes;
to clean, can, and label more than 216 quart jars;
to scrub, wash, and dry an unending stream of buckets, trays, and pots;
and to box, load, and unload cases and cases of healthy tomato sauce for the Pantry.
Your energy, flexibility, and good spirits made it a joyful day.
Attached are the recipe and, thanks to Linda Wilkie and Stephanie Callimanis, some photos that capture the day.
Hope to see you preserving again next year or gleaning with Farm to Pantry, cooking with Slow Harvest or just walking around town.
